Doing Your Best with Diabetes
If you have diabetes, we know that managing it at times can be overwhelming. You may feel frustrated or even discouraged. We are here to remind you that you are not alone. There is a team of medical professionals ready to support you. Do you have a care team? This is the first question to answer to start on the right path. If your answer is “no,” we would love to talk with you more.
Before you schedule your appointment, Dr. Anant Joshi at Advanced Foot Care of NJ, LLC wants to share three ways to help you do your best while managing your diabetes diagnosis. Remember that support surrounds you and, stick to the plan. Your podiatry team is cheering for you!
Don’t do it alone
We just talked about the importance of having a care team. Diabetes can have an impact on your body from head to toe. When it comes to our specialty areas, feet and ankles, we are ready to help with prevention and treatment. Managing diabetes alone does not have to be your story. Invite family and friends to join you, too. Helpful ways to get involved include preparing healthy and fun meals together.
- Find support groups in your community
- Stay in touch with your doctor
- Reach out for help at any time
Don’t forget to check
Are you checking your blood sugar levels regularly? It may take some time to adjust to this new normal, but these regular checks are valuable. Checking sugar levels often allows you time to adjust before levels get too high or too low. Without checking, your next meal could cause more harm than good.
- Use an app or keep a notebook nearby
- Bring your records to your next appointment
- Reach out to your doctor if you notice highs and lows
Don’t forget to exercise
Who says that a diabetes diagnosis means that you should stop exercising? It’s never too late to get moving. Boost your physical activity and experience the benefits. Regular exercise helps with weight management and improves circulation.
- Bring a friend along for accountability
- Start with low-impact exercises
- Stay hydrated and listen to your body
