Neuropathy and Managing Diabetes
Have you ever wondered why checking your blood sugar level was so important? Today, we’re talking about neuropathy or nerve damage and managing diabetes, which is often the cause. One of the main culprits is when a patient’s blood sugar levels are poorly managed. Unfortunately, unhealthy levels can often go undetected for a while.
Dr. Anant Joshi at Advanced Foot Care of NJ, LLC shares five tips that will help you give your best to your diabetes diagnosis:
1-Creating a schedule for blood sugar checks
Are you ready to switch some things up in your schedule? Whether you have an app or use timers throughout the day, it is important to check your blood sugar regularly. When the day is getting busy, we are often eating when we can. Unfortunately, this can get people into trouble with their blood sugar status.
2-Eating a healthier diet
Of course, checking your blood sugar matters. It helps to have confidence when you know you have been eating well. Talk to your doctor about ways to improve your diet. Avoid foods with added sugars. Choose smaller serving sizes and learn to say “no” to second helpings. Leftovers are great, too!
3-Taking your medicine
If your doctor has prescribed medication for you, please take it regularly — and on time. Medication can be very helpful for patients with diabetes, but it matters that you follow the dosing instructions. If you have questions about your medication, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor. They are on your side.
4–Saying “goodbye” to smoking
Smoking is just another bad habit we want you to quit. It already impacts the circulation in your body, and it can make things worse as you manage nerve damage. Please stop smoking today. If you need help, we are happy to connect you with resources.
5-Checking in with your doctors
Are you documenting your blood sugar levels? It helps to spot highs and lows and share these details with your doctor. Regular checks allow for your doctor to adjust your medication if necessary. It always helps to have an expert on your side.
