Peripheral Arterial Disease

About

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a condition in which blood flow to the extremities is restricted due to the narrowing of the arteries that deliver blood to the arms and legs.

This narrowing is caused by the accumulation of fatty deposits, which leads to a condition called atherosclerosis.

The reduction of blood flow caused by atherosclerosis can result in symptoms such as pain and numbness in the extremities.

More About Peripheral Arterial Disease

While some individuals with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) may not experience symptoms, many suffer from leg pain (claudication), usually when walking. The pain or cramping begins during physical activity and improves after resting.

However, in cases where the leg pain is severe, activities such as walking can be challenging to complete.

Besides claudication, other symptoms can include:

    • Leg weakness or numbness
    • Foot or leg coldness
    • Change in color
    • Sores on your feet, toes or legs that won’t heal
    • Hair loss on feet and legs

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) can have severe consequences if left untreated, such as heart attacks, stroke, critical limb ischemia, gangrene, and amputation.
However, by seeking medical attention early you can avoid these more serious outcomes.

Our team will check your pulse and blood pressure to identify any issues with arterial blood flow. Utilizing the latest technologies like SmartABI to identify the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) quickly helps us compare the blood pressure in your arm to that of your ankle.

These diagnostic tests will provide a clear picture of the extent of your condition, and help us create a personalized treatment plan that works best for you.

Treating PAD is essential for improving your quality of life and reducing your risk of serious complications. With the right treatment plan, you can relieve the pain and prevent atherosclerosis from progressing.

Our medical team may also recommend medications to lower blood pressure, and cholesterol, control pain and prevent blood clots. Surgery or angioplasty may be necessary in more severe cases to treat PAD.

We understand that managing PAD can be challenging, but our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Don’t let PAD control your life any longer. Contact us today and start your journey toward a healthier, more active lifestyle.
