Choose the Right Shoes!
When our patient come in with questions, one in particular stands out from the rest: “Which shoes should I be wearing?” If it were a simple matter of rattling off a few brands to buy, then we wouldn’t hear this particular query so often. Yet most people do not have the same foot type, and what might be the perfect shoe for you could be uncomfortable or even damaging for someone else.
Advanced Foot Care of NJ makes every effort to address patient questions, even if the solutions aren’t immediately apparent. To continue delivering on that commitment, we’ve put together a short guide concerning footwear recommendations. We hope it will help answer some of the nagging questions you have in mind and help you choose the perfect shoes.
Ascertain Your Arch:
- For the majority of our patients, we note a visible arch while they are standing upright.
- However, approximately half the population does not have an arch while standing.
- For a simple guideline, consider whether there is any space between your foot and the ground you are standing on. If there is, you’ve got an arch.
Remember These Two When Choosing Shoes
To keep things straightforward, try to remember that there are really only two categories of footwear: Neutral and stability based.
- Neutral shoes are for those who have an arch, whereas stability shoes are intended for those who lack one.
- High arches require cushioning for shock absorption, but flat feet need stability features and range of motion control.
- Wearing the right shoes for your feet is an essential component of maintaining podiatric health.
As great as a new pair of shoes might be, remember that they won’t resolve issues concerning chronic pain. Those types of issues require treatment from an expert DPM. Spending large amounts of cash on a trendy pair isn’t going to magically solve all your foot and ankle problems!
