Take Care of Your Feet This Summer
Now is the time to prepare for the summer and bring good foot care habits to a new season. Are you ready to put your toes in the sand? Let’s not forget our healthy foot care routines while having fun this summer.
Dr. Anant Joshi at Advanced Foot Care of NJ, LLC has five ways to care for your feet now, successfully transitioning from spring to summer season. From your shoe choice to hygiene, take note of these recommended practices. There are things we should stop doing, and others we should start doing.
1-Stop canceling appointments
Schedule changes happen, but we encourage you to avoid canceling your podiatry appointments. Each visit allows your doctor to check in on the health of your feet and ankles. For patients with diabetes, it can be a visit to check on the status of a foot ulcer or if neuropathy has worsened. If it’s been some time since your last podiatry appointment, call today, make an appointment, and keep it.
2-Stop wearing the wrong shoes
Many of the most talked-about causes of foot issues are from wearing the wrong shoes. The wrong choice is footwear that lacks support and protection, like flip-flops. Please start a new season with good footwear choices.
3-Stop ignoring your feet in the shower
Washing your feet is one of the best ways to stay proactive against foot infections. When was the last time you washed your feet? Yes, we’re talking about the top and bottom of your feet, too. Once you wash your feet, make sure you thoroughly dry them, too. Who wants stinky feet this summer?
4-Stop walking barefoot
While the temperatures may be getting warmer, this is not a reason to walk barefoot. Walking without shoes exposes your feet to danger. We’re talking about germs, sharp objects, hot pavement, and more. Keep your feet covered, especially while walking outside.
5-Stop dismissing foot pain
Bright, sunny days won’t make your heel pain go away. Trust us. Instead, schedule an appointment with a podiatrist. A foot and ankle specialist will examine and determine the cause of your pain and create a treatment plan.
As we close out spring and start summer begin and keep your good foot health practices and routine, and stop the bad ones that cause foot problems. We want you to enjoy every season with optimal foot and ankle health.
