Healthy Habits for Sweaty Feet
Spring’s finally here! With warmer weather comes more fun in the sun with friends and family, but there may be one unfortunate side effect – sweaty feet. Our feet have over 250,000 sweat glands. That’s why around 5% of people deal with super sweaty feet daily. Luckily, Advanced Foot Care of NJ has you covered with five ways to combat sweaty feet this April!
- Wash your feet every day with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to properly dry your feet after, including in between your toes, to eliminate any moisture.
- Additionally, you can give your feet a quick baking soda bath to help with any lingering foot odor. Sprinkle 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda into your tub, fill with warm water up to your ankle, and rest your feet for 20 minutes. Follow up with a thorough towel dry. Another popular remedy is a black tea soak. Instead, place two black tea bags into the water and keep your feet soaking for 30 minutes. Repeat both daily for the best results.
- Consider buying a powder to absorb excess moisture. Some powders on the market are also antifungal, if you suffer from a fungal infection, like athlete’s foot. Apply to clean feet daily to keep them dry.
- Wearing the right pair of socks is key for preventing sweaty feet. Socks made of materials like wool and cotton are ideal, as they offer great ventilation. Avoid nylon socks, as they can get soggy throughout your wear. Always change socks at least once a day. You can also keep a backup pair with you in case you need a midday change!
- Most boots and sneakers tend to trap moisture. Instead, choose shoes made of a material like canvas or leather, which is much more breathable. Some sports sneakers are made of a mesh material that allows for air circulation. Make sure to give your shoes enough time to dry out in between wears by alternating pairs daily! Absorbent insoles might be particularly helpful, too.
