Wart Prevention
At Advanced Foot Care of NJ, LLC, we know your feet work hard. In particular, the soles of your feet are under constant pressure as you move through your day. Unfortunately, that pressure, combined with human papillomavirus, can produce plantar warts.
Human papillomavirus invades the body through openings in the skin, which is highly contagious. It’s often contracted in swimming pools, showers, locker rooms, and other public spaces that feature warmth and moisture. Once the HPV virus has been acquired, plantar warts can form. These warts grow inward into the tissue of your foot, producing uncomfortable calluses, pain, and sensitivity when walking. If left untreated, plantar warts can last years.
To avoid getting plantar warts, try:
- Wearing shoes or flip-flops in public spaces.
- Changing your socks and shoes frequently.
- Maintaining good hygiene by keeping your feet clean and dry.
If you already suffer from plantar warts, don’t waste time with over-the-counter treatments; they’re ineffective and will not resolve the problem. Instead, let Dr. Anant Joshi and his team assist you with the most modern, targeted treatment options available.
Option 1: Salicylic Acid
This topical prescription treatment, which can also help with corns and calluses, causes warts to gradually peel away. Soaking the afflicted foot in warm water for five minutes can make this option more effective. This medication should be applied consistently for maximum benefit.
Option 2: Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy makes use of liquid nitrogen to freeze plantar warts. The warts and the area around them are numbed beforehand to help with pain, and then the tissue comes off in a matter of weeks.
Option 3: Laser Treatment
Lasers can be very effective. They work by closing off blood vessels, which ultimately destroys plantar warts.
