3 Ways to Treat Tendinosis
What’s worse than chronic pain? The kind that stubbornly resists treatment…and worsens over time! For this post, Advanced Foot Care of NJ will help you understand one of the worst examples of what we just mentioned: Achilles Tendinosis. Read on to see how you can spot and treat the symptoms of this condition before they spiral into something worse.
Achilles Tendinosis: The Not-So-Obvious Culprit
Sudden, intense heel pain, especially in adults over 30, can be alarming. You might even feel like someone kicked you in the back of the heel. This could be Achilles tendinosis, a condition often mistaken for Achilles tendonitis.
Tendonitis vs. Tendinosis: What’s the Difference?
- Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendon.
- Tendinosis: Degeneration or scar-tissue formation within the tendon. It is a chronic condition.
While both cause pain, tendinosis often presents with a noticeable lump on the Achilles tendon. Importantly, treatments that work for tendonitis (ice, anti-inflammatories, rest) typically don’t help tendinosis.
Treating Achilles Tendinosis: Beyond Rest
Because tendinosis involves degeneration of the tendon tissue, it requires treatments that regenerate healthy tissue.
Traditionally…
- Surgery was often the only option to remove the scar tissue. However, many patients find the cost, time, and complication risks of this option too burdensome.
Modern Options:
- ESWT Shockwave Therapy: This non-invasive treatment uses sound waves to stimulate healing. Said waves can create a “cascade” of beneficial effects that lead to tissue regeneration while reducing pain simultaneously.
- EMTT Therapy: A non-invasive treatment using high-energy magnetic pulses to penetrate deep into affected tissue, with the potential to create beneficial chemical reactions at the cellular level. Reduces inflammation and improves circulation.
- MultiRadiance Pulse Laser: The world’s first and only FDA-CLEARED device that combines neurological electrical stimulation and pinpoint super pulsed laser. An excellent option for pain relief with proven applications in tendon and ligament injury correction!
